Education is changing. Digital technologies are transforming the way we learn, work, communicate, and participate in society, creating new opportunities while also presenting new challenges.
The EDURom – Education for Social Inclusion of Roma project brings together organisations from across Europe to explore how education, digital learning, and international cooperation can contribute to greater inclusion and create new opportunities for Roma adults.
Making learning more accessible and relevant
One of the key principles of EDURom is that educational opportunities should respond to the real needs and experiences of learners.
The project focuses on strengthening access to lifelong learning and supporting the development of skills that can be useful in everyday life, further education, and employment. Particular attention is given to digital skills and soft skills, which are becoming increasingly important in today’s rapidly changing environment.
Through research, educational activities, workshops, and the exchange of experiences, the project partners are working to better understand the challenges that Roma adults may face when accessing education and to identify approaches that can help overcome these barriers.
Innovation through cooperation
EDURom is built on international cooperation between organisations with different areas of expertise and experience.
The partnership brings together the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Culture Bjelovar (CUK Bjelovar) from Croatia, Academia Rromaï from Austria and Germany, and Pe Bune from Romania.
Working across different national and organisational contexts allows partners to exchange perspectives, share good practices, and explore new approaches to education and inclusion.
International learning activities are an important part of this process. They provide opportunities for partners to learn from one another, discuss challenges, and consider how successful approaches can be adapted to different communities and local environments.
Digital skills for greater participation
Digital competence is increasingly connected to access to education, employment, information, and public life.
For this reason, EDURom places an important emphasis on developing digital skills among Roma adults. The aim is not simply to introduce participants to digital tools, but to support their confidence and ability to use technology in meaningful and practical ways.
Combined with soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and self-confidence, digital competences can help open new pathways for personal and professional development.
From shared knowledge to new opportunities
The project also highlights the importance of learning from one another.
By connecting organisations, educators, researchers, and communities across Europe, EDURom creates opportunities for knowledge exchange and the development of new ideas.
