Meet the Project Coordinator: CUK Bjelovar

At the heart of the EDURom partnership is the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Culture Bjelovar (CUK Bjelovar), a public institution from Croatia dedicated to adult education, lifelong learning, culture, and community development.

As the coordinator of the EDURom project, CUK Bjelovar brings extensive experience in education, project management, European cooperation, and the development of learning opportunities for different groups within the community.

A regional centre for lifelong learning

CUK Bjelovar plays an important role in providing educational and cultural opportunities in Bjelovar and the wider region.

Its activities include a wide range of programmes designed to support learning and personal development at different stages of life. These include adult education and retraining programmes, foreign language courses, micro-qualification programmes, creative workshops, and cultural activities.

Through programmes supported by HZZ vouchers, participants can also gain access to education leading to new qualifications and skills that can support their professional development and position in the labour market.

Beyond formal education, CUK Bjelovar creates opportunities for learning through creative and after-work workshops, cultural programmes, events, and activities intended for different generations.

Connecting education and the community

One of CUK Bjelovar’s key roles is to connect education with the needs of the local community.

Lifelong learning can provide people with opportunities to acquire new knowledge, develop practical skills, change their career direction, or strengthen their position in the labour market. At the same time, education can contribute to greater social participation and inclusion.

Through its educational and cultural activities, CUK Bjelovar works to make learning accessible to a broad range of participants and to create an environment in which education continues throughout life.

European cooperation and innovation

European cooperation is another important part of CUK Bjelovar’s work.

The institution participates in Erasmus+ and other European projects, working together with organisations from different countries to exchange knowledge, develop new approaches, and learn from good practices across Europe.

International cooperation allows CUK Bjelovar to bring new ideas and experiences into the local educational environment while also sharing its own knowledge and practices with European partners.

CUK Bjelovar and the EDURom project

As the project coordinator of EDURom – Education for Social Inclusion of Roma, CUK Bjelovar leads the partnership between organisations from Croatia, Austria, Germany, and Romania.

The project brings together Academia Rromaï and Pe Bune alongside CUK Bjelovar, creating a partnership that combines expertise in adult education, Roma communities, non-formal learning, research, culture, and social inclusion.

CUK Bjelovar’s experience in adult education provides an important foundation for EDURom’s work. The institution coordinates activities aimed at better understanding the educational needs of Roma adults and supporting the development of learning opportunities that respond to those needs.

Particular attention is given to digital skills, soft skills, lifelong learning, and pathways towards employment and active participation in society.

Building inclusive learning opportunities

Through EDURom, CUK Bjelovar is expanding its work in the field of inclusive education and strengthening its capacity to work with communities that may face barriers to accessing education.

The project also provides an opportunity to connect local experience with international knowledge and good practices. Through workshops, learning activities, partner meetings, and international exchanges, the organisations involved in EDURom are working together to develop approaches that can create meaningful and sustainable opportunities for Roma adults.

For CUK Bjelovar, EDURom represents another step in its commitment to lifelong learning, social inclusion, accessible education, and stronger communities.

By coordinating the project and working closely with its international partners, CUK Bjelovar contributes to a shared European effort to make education more accessible and to ensure that learning can become a pathway towards greater participation and opportunity.
