Meet Our Project Partner: Academia Rromaï

The success of a European project depends on the knowledge, experience, and commitment of the organisations working together towards a shared goal. In the EDURom project, our international partnership brings together organisations with different backgrounds and expertise, united by a common commitment to education, inclusion, and greater opportunities for Roma communities.

In this article, we introduce Academia Rromaï, one of EDURom’s project partners.

Bringing together Roma academics, researchers and educators

Academia Rromaï is a transnational civil society organisation bringing together Roma academics, researchers, and educators who work to empower Roma communities through education, science, culture, and research.

With its main activities based in Germany and Austria, the organisation works across a range of areas that are closely connected to the objectives of EDURom.

Its work includes initiatives focused on education and youth empowerment, cultural and artistic activities, the preservation of Roma history and collective memory, as well as linguistic and scientific research related to the Romani language.

Academia Rromaï also plays an active role in raising awareness of antigypsyism and discrimination, advocating for equality, inclusion, and the recognition of Roma rights and identity.

Education, culture and research

Through workshops, cultural events, research activities, and public discussions, Academia Rromaï creates opportunities for knowledge exchange and dialogue.

Education is an important part of this work. By connecting academic knowledge with the experiences and needs of Roma communities, the organisation contributes to creating spaces where learning can support empowerment and greater participation in society.

Culture and language are equally important. Preserving Roma history, supporting cultural expression, and researching the Romani language contribute to strengthening cultural identity while helping promote greater understanding of Roma heritage among the wider public.

Academia Rromaï and EDURom

As a partner in EDURom – Education for Social Inclusion of Roma, Academia Rromaï contributes its experience in education, research, culture, and work with Roma communities.

Its international perspective and expertise are particularly valuable for the project’s activities focused on understanding educational needs, exchanging good practices, and developing approaches that can contribute to more inclusive lifelong learning opportunities for Roma adults.

The cooperation between Academia Rromaï, the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Culture Bjelovar (CUK Bjelovar), and Association Pe Bune from Romania enables partners to exchange knowledge and experiences from different national contexts.

This transnational cooperation is an important part of EDURom, as it allows project partners to learn from one another and jointly explore ways to make education more accessible, relevant, and inclusive.

Working together for inclusion

The work of Academia Rromaï reflects an important principle at the heart of EDURom: education, culture, research, and cooperation can all contribute to stronger and more inclusive communities.

By bringing together people with different experiences and areas of expertise, the project creates opportunities to develop new ideas, share good practices, and work towards sustainable solutions for Roma communities.

We are pleased to have Academia Rromaï as part of the EDURom partnership and look forward to continuing this exchange of knowledge and experience throughout the project.
