LTTA Activity “Educational Opportunities for Roma: Challenges and Solutions” Held in Vienna

An LTTA (Learning, Teaching and Training Activity) entitled “Educational Opportunities for Roma: Challenges and Solutions” was held in Vienna as part of the Erasmus+ project EDURom. The activity was organised and hosted by the partner organisation Academia Rromai, with participants from the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Culture Bjelovar (CUK Bjelovar) and Association Pe Bune.

The LTTA activity aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of the educational needs of Roma communities, encourage the exchange of knowledge and experiences among project partners, and align approaches for the further implementation of project activities. Through interactive workshops, discussions and study visits, participants explored challenges and solutions related to inclusive education and lifelong learning for Roma communities.

The first day of the programme focused on the role of education in empowering Roma communities. Participants took part in workshops and discussions addressing the history of Roma people, the impact of stereotypes and discrimination, and the importance of inclusive educational practices. A dedicated workshop on the Romani language provided insight into its development, challenges related to standardisation, and basic linguistic elements, highlighting the importance of language preservation as part of cultural identity.

On the second day, participants attended a good practice exchange workshop at Romano Centro, one of the most prominent Roma organisations in Austria. During the visit, participants became familiar with Romano Centro’s work, ongoing projects and approaches in the fields of education, culture and community empowerment. The exchange provided valuable examples of successful practices that can be adapted and applied within the EDURom project framework.

The LTTA activity in Vienna significantly contributed to strengthening cooperation among project partners and provided valuable input for the continued development of activities aimed at promoting educational inclusion, social participation and lifelong learning opportunities for Roma communities.
