Learning new skills can open the door to new opportunities. It can make everyday tasks easier, increase confidence, support employment and encourage people to become more actively involved in the community.
For many adults, however, access to education is still affected by different social, economic and other barriers. EDURom aims to address some of these challenges by creating accessible and inclusive learning opportunities for Roma adults.
Skills for everyday life and work
EDURom focuses on the development of digital and soft skills through non-formal education programmes.
Digital skills are increasingly important in everyday life. Using online services, finding reliable information, communicating through digital tools or completing everyday tasks online are now part of daily routines. Having the confidence and knowledge to use these tools can make a significant difference.
Alongside digital competences, EDURom places emphasis on soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability and confidence. These skills are useful not only in the workplace, but also in education, personal development and everyday interactions.
The aim is to provide learning that participants can connect with their own experiences and needs and apply in real-life situations.
Education as a pathway to opportunity
Learning does not have to stop with acquiring individual skills. It can also be a starting point for further education and professional development.
Through EDURom, partners are exploring ways to encourage greater participation in formal education and create pathways towards micro-qualifications. For adults who may have had limited opportunities to participate in education in the past, accessible learning experiences can be an important step towards continuing their education and improving their employment prospects.
In this way, education becomes more than the acquisition of knowledge. It becomes a tool for greater independence, participation and access to new opportunities.
Working together across Europe
EDURom brings together organisations from Croatia, Germany/Austria and Romania, combining different experiences of adult education, non-formal learning and work with Roma communities.
International cooperation gives partners the opportunity to exchange knowledge, examine different approaches and learn from examples of good practice in other European contexts.
The project also includes research into the educational needs, experiences and barriers faced by the target group. These findings will help inform the development of educational activities and ensure that the programmes respond as closely as possible to the needs of participants.
Building confidence through learning
One of the important aspects of EDURom is creating an environment in which learning is accessible, supportive and connected to real needs.
Developing a new skill can be a small step, but it can also create the confidence to take the next one — whether that means applying for a job, continuing education, using a digital service independently or becoming more involved in the community.
By increasing access to learning and strengthening competences, EDURom contributes to creating conditions in which more people can participate and make use of opportunities available to them.
